Before reaching out to us, check out our FAQs for quick answers to common questions.

  • What is the difference between Coaching and Counseling?

The significant differences are in the goals, focus, and level of professional responsibility. Coaching focuses on developing and implementing strategies to reach client-identified goals of enhanced performance and personal satisfaction. Coaching may address specific personal projects, life balance, job performance, satisfaction, or general conditions in the client’s life, business, or profession. Coaching utilizes personal strategic planning, values clarification, brainstorming, motivational, and other helping techniques.

Counseling focuses on identifying, diagnosing, and treating mental and nervous disorders. The goals of counseling include alleviating symptoms, understanding the underlying dynamics which create symptoms, changing dysfunctional behaviors resulting from these disorders, and developing new strategies for successfully coping with the psychological challenges we all face.

  • How will I know which is best for me?

When you schedule a consultation or discovery call, your coach or counselor will ask a couple of questions that will help you discern the best service for your needs. You will have an opportunity to continue with 10:10 Life Coaching and Counseling or have other options provided for you.

  • When is payment due for coaching and counseling services? What types of payments do you accept?

Payment for coaching is purchased in packages and due prior to service. There are no refunds for session packages.

Payment for counseling services are paid immediately after session. There are no refunds for counseling services.

10:10 Life Coaching and Counseling, PLLC accepts cash, debit cards, and all major credit cards through their client portals of Paperbell and Simple Practice, both of which use Stripe.

  • May I receive coaching and counseling at the same time?

Not from the same person. In addition to being a Board-Certified Coach, Janel Smith is licensed in Texas as a Professional Counselor with training and experience to diagnose and treat mental illness and emotional problems independently. She cannot engage in coaching services with you if you are or have ever been a counseling client, nor will she be able to begin counseling services with you if you are a coaching client.

  • How long will I be in counseling?

You will provided with a Good Faith Estimate prior to the beginning of therapy. Length and trajectory of treatment is an ongoing conversation between the client and therapist.

  • Can I use insurance to pay for counseling?

We are a private-pay only facility, but often provide superbills for clients who choose to file out-of-network with their insurance. Many clients use HSA and FSA accounts to pay for therapy services.
